Obviously you would want to put more on the knuckles instead of the palm since it hardens the wrap and interferes with grappling. Adding a padded bar on the back of the hand builds up more wrap on the back of the hand without bulging it on the palm. In most if not all cases, the palm must always be open and free of wraps. This is the way I wrap my fighters hands.

I sort of use this wrap method, I messed with it a little bit and ended up with my own style. I'm assuming this is what Mike did. I just use less wrap on my knuckles and more on my palm and wrists.

Mike, do you have any video or tutorials on the variation you use?

i've tried wrapping my hands like this and don't particularly like the way it feels. I use a variation that keeps my palms open but provides decent support around the wrist.

Of course, given that I just tweaked my wrist (sparring with no wraps on), I might give this a try again to gset some more support.
