McDojo Teaching Jiujitsu

Here’s a video of a “Grandmaster” Ted Gambordella teaching amateur jiujitsu techniques out of a McDojo in Texas. Not only is this guy deluding his students into believing they could properly defend themselves, he’s getting his rocks off by causing them pain in his overzealous demonstrations. Furthermore, this hack is professing to be teaching jiujitsu—no doubt riding the wave that BJJ has caused in this country.

What really makes me angry is that the students in this video are all very young and this dude is applying some very painful and dangerous techniques on them with very little discretion. If you’re as fired up as I am, go leave some comments on MetaCafe. Here’s the link to the video page.

“Jujitsu is [a] very violent sport. This is Japanese jujitsu.”

He’s certainly running through ukes, isn’t he?

Even more ignorant than his godawful technique and disregard for the tap is him not teaching his students to fall properly. I’m surprised there weren’t any popped elbows.

You’re right, Mike. Falling properly should have been the prerequisite. And every one of those techniques probably should’ve been a dedicated lesson.

Ya, those students are at least brown belt and don’t show that they can breakfall yet? Good call on the McDojo.

wth funny i thought the same thing as every one else. poor kids they r going to try and enter a sub fight and get broke off. who does this guy think he is what a joke. he has no respect to the art or to any real bjj professor down to the student.

i think you need a symbol to tap with in his so called school, since it seems like he might be deaf, dumb, and blind

he slates ‘ultimate figthers’ in this video but professes to teach ‘mixed martial arts’.

and his site is called http://www.blackbeltinabox.com/

    not a pleasant man.

I’m an instructor in Combatives for the Army. I train very soldiers in the lowest levels of Jiu Jitsu and stand up. So I understand instructions.

First off…pain. It’s a fight…it’s training for a fight. You have to understand pain…period. You have to understand how every submission feels so you know when it’s coming on and how it feels. The moves that are “so painful” are very basic submissions taught at every one of these schools.

Break Fall…break falls are taught in combatives level 2 because of the nature of the take down. Meaning we would do take downs where there entire body is flying and they are landing on there back. But this guy is controlling each take down right to the ground.

I would rather my son or daughter to “kick the knee cap” of some guy or girl than to be seriously injured or killed.

BTW…I’m not a nice guy in my class…I know i’m training soldiers and it’s a different atmosphere…but none the less this guy is training personnel for fighting when it all boils down to it. So I don’t really care and you shouldn’t care either if he’s not a “pleasant man.”

One more thing…if you go into learning a discipline like this and you don’t come out with bumps and bruises then the teacher isn’t doing his job.

I’m not sure about some of the blocks, they seem a bit hopeful a times (knees very close to nose at points when he’s demonstrating). I do feel sorry for the young students. think they should be going over the basics of ju-jitsu, ie breaking balance, properly blocking! and breakfalls, rather than running into a sidekick! And his JJ stance…? left to be desired
