Wow. Just. Wow. This is the kind of thing that counters all the work that’s been done to legitimize the sport. The person who am most upset with his the referee for letting it go on. Second in line is the fat kid. Dude has no business in an MMA fight.

OK, maybe they won’t all be assholes, but the preview they showed during UFC 74 certainly exhibits some asshole behavior. Bring on the blog fodder, I say. I can’t wait to see the Hughes and Serra sparks fly.

I’m looking forward to seeing Mac Danzig in action both in and out of the octagon. His grappling is top notch, and I hope training on the show will push him to improve his hands somehow. This may be impossible judging by who the coaches are, though.

If there’s anything that can be learned from this weekend’s UFC it’s how valuable and effective adaptation and training can be. Both Randy and GSP came out with strategies and skills that put them on top.

Headlining the event is Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga. This fight will be interesting in that while Gonzaga did manage to handle Crocop with relative ease, there isn’t an obvious weakness with Couture that he can exploit. Gonzaga’s striking is decent… better than Couture’s. Couture has admitted that he’s basically looking for the takedown. I wouldn’t count Couture out on playing the standup game though after seeing how effective his overhand was with Tim Sylvia. But then again, it was Tim Sylvia. That dude wouldn’t move his head unless there was cheesecake just out of biting range.

I dunno what the circumstances were surrounding this fight, but this dude just gets completely owned by a girl. Granted the girl is not the most delicate sampling of the fairer sex, but still. PWNT!
