Royce Roids Up So Body Matches Head?

According to an update on MMAWeekly, Royce’s nandrolone level was through the rizoof.

Normal levels: 2 ng/Ml
Normally high levels: 6 ng/Ml
Royce’s level: 50 ng/Ml

Royce Gracie’s pre-fight drug test came up positive for an anabolic steroid known as nandrolone.  Royce fought a rematch with Gracie nemesis Kazu….. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzz zzzzzz…. mm ung…. egh? Sorry, dozed off there.

I haven’t looked at the numbers on this one, but according to the Wikipedia, there are a lot of pretty common ways to come up positive.  Nandrolone is a naturally occurring steroid in the human body and levels can rise for a number of reasons.

According to the article, high protein diets supplemented with creatine and heavy cardio can result in a positive pee test. The verdict seems final, but I’d really like to hear Royce’s side of the story before making any judgment.  Personally, I hope he didn’t dope.  First because it would be a move that to me, undoes everything that he’s done for the sport of MMA.  Second, it would give him even less excuses for that weak-ass fight.

It does all seem to fit though.  Royce was bulked up, but not ripped during his weigh-in.  Nandrolone’s side-effects are mild compared to other steroids, which would probably make it attractive for someone who’s grown up on a diet as strict as the Gracie’s do.  In addition, nandrolone has the unique property of improving the body’s ability to create collagen and bone, so it’s essentially good for your joints… hmmmmm…..
