Truth Fightwear V3 Stretch Board Short

Today we’re looking at Truth Fightwear‘s V3 stretch board shorts. I finally got the chance to roll in them over the weekend, and I was quite impressed.

The shorts are a cotton/poly blend stretch fabric. So stretchy that they claim there’s no need for side slits. Unfortunately I’m not Van Damme, so I couldn’t really max out the elasticity. I found no problems with moving around and felt generally unrestricted.

Design is pretty minimal and no nonsense. The paneling is all cotton/poly and I wasn’t bogged down with moisture buildup at all. The enclosure mechanisms are a combo of elastic, a classic boardshort string tie, and velcro. With all of these in place, there’s pretty much no way they’re coming off during a hip escape. I don’t particularly like the elastic for aesthetic and comfort reasons, but they do work quite well. Also, it makes it easier to fit if you’ve got a weird in-between size waist. The waistband is really thickso it bunches up a lot in the elastic portions, but heck it’ll keep your pants up if you’re too lazy to tie the string. The velcro enclosure is surprisingly thin, which is an improvement compared to most of the shorts I’ve seen.

Stitching on the front panel and the sides are clean, solid, and double or triple stitched. The stitching isn’t the prettiest on the waist band, but that’s just because the elastic bunches it all together. If you stretch it out it doesn’t look so bad.

The logo stitching is super thick, and a bit uncomfortable at times but it’s the coolest looking feature on the shorts so I’m willing to overlook that. I kind of wish they had a wider variety in colors and designs, but I’m sure keeping things simple is what it takes to keep the prices down.

The biggest sell with these shorts are that they’re a decent pair of shorts at an unbeatable price. At $24.99 a pop you really can’t lose. Granted it may not be up to the build standards of some of the “premium” brands out there, but honestly it’s pretty darn close. If you’re lookin for a pair of highly functional shorts to train in at a reasonable price, I’d go with these.
