Mental Game
January 26, 2007
Anyone who has gone through sports competition will agree that when physically all things are equal, the deciding factor that brings a dubya is mental. I’ve been reading a book called Competitive Fire by Michael Clarkson. In it, Clarkson shares his research on the mental/physical connection that elite athletes have mastered. He talks about the different mind/body states that athletes can achieve. Most of these are caused by different chemicals that the mind triggers to enter the bloodstream consequently giving the athlete boosted speed, strength, and mental focus. This isn’t the first blog entry I’ve posted on this subject, but I find it completely fascinating and worth further investigation.

Randy Couture on Pros vs. Joes
The Natural made an appearance on Spike TV’s Pros vs. Joes last night. The contestants each spent 5 minutes grappling with him and whoever tapped the least amount of times would then win that competition. Man I couldn’t stop giggling watching these guys get torn through by Randy. Talk about some sick wrestling takedowns from a 40 year old.
Part of me admits that the idea of pitting these untrained athletes against a grappling/MMA legend is completely outrageous, but the other part of me just watches and giggles. Some clips are available on Spike TV’s website. You’ll have to dig around for it after that link because Spike TV’s site is all Flash.
Oh wait, here’s the full segment on Dailymotion.com.
I know it’s been a while but c’mon I’m busy over here, people! On Randy’s coming out of retirement to fight Tim Sylvia… personally I don’t think it’s a good idea. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see Randy beat the shit out of that graceless gorilla, but I also think that Randy is in a good place right now. He doesn’t really have much else to prove to me, but I suppose it might just be something that he feels he has to do. I think I speak for most of the MMA-loving community when I say that Randy is a legend and has been a truly outstanding representative for the adoption and success of MMA in mainstream society.
And now I leave you with… photos of Randy’s ear.
