All Doubt Removed that Hughes is a Jerk
Matt Hughes is selling t-shirts on his site that celebrate his victory over Royce Gracie. Now I’m all for celebrations, but this is just out of line. I mean it could be worse, but c’mon at least have some respect. Why would you do that to the father of MMA? Ohh right.. because you are a fucking arrogant jerkoff.
I do my best to give Hughes his due on this blog about as much as I make fun of him, but this kind of pushes me over. And I know that hating someone who is all about hate is pointless, but at least it’s fun—and it makes for some good light reading for you guys.
Anyway, back to the store. BTW, I’m only linking this for reference. If any of you buy any products from this trailer motherfucker, I will personally armbar your face. Or is that a facebar… whatever… if you give him money the baby Jesus cries.
My personal favorites are the Bible verse t-shirts. No wonder he keeps winning! God likes him!

Alright Josh, loosen that deathgrip you have around Matt’s nutsack for a second and hear me out. I never said he wasn’t a great fighter. I gave him his props in that regard. Maybe not in this post, but I did somewhere. I think.
What I do with my time bears no correlation to why I don’t like the guy. I like fighters who are respectful and humble… fighters who understand that every opponent you defeat just helped you move up. I have no problem with Matt’s success. He earned it. I just have problems with his tendency to dismiss people (read cocky). Perhaps the biggest case being while he was coaching on TUF and his attitude toward Von Flue. Granted, Von Flue is the worst fighter I have laid eyes on, but as his coach Hughes had an obligation to support him. Instead, Hughes played cards. I wonder if maybe he just forgot to look down at his WWJD bracelet that one time. The production and sale of these t-shirts just confirms it for me. The guy’s an asshole.

ive always been a huge fan of matt and if you have reasons not to like him beyond the t-shirt, thats fine. the shirt is funny and clever, and not beyond anything a gracie would do. royce built it but matt says he’s renovating it. if you dont see the humor in that or dont think a gracie would do that then i dont know what to tell you.
im in texas btw…have the internet but not cable. waiting on the dvds to see tuf season 2. however, matt just recently converted to christianity so dont view failures or lapses into his old self as insincerity…just growing pains. changing the person you are is probably the hardest thing you could possibly do and it lends itsself greatly to failure. ive had dealings with the hughes camp and ive been treated above and beyond what i expected.
there are a ton of fighters who i look at and think arrogant, but i dont know them. look at the pride final and think if you could have what looks like more arrogance, but i dont know them. i read barnett interviews now and he seems humble. crocop seems impossible but then i see him and bas playing jokes on mauro…i dont know. matt may have an humility issue he’s trying to(or needs to) work out, but cmon…hes not TO
