Ha! Ha! Ha! I have never watched Matt Hughes fight, much less listened to him until just recently. I expected to hear a humble person who knew he was good, but like the article up above, he sounded like an asshole.

Too bad.

Lance, I completely agree. The Gracies are cornerstones of modern MMA, and a lot of respect is due there. The point where I begin to lose respect for them is when they are incapable of acknowledging that times are changing. I can understand competitive nature, and being proud of a family tradition, but if they still think that BJJ remains the ultimate martial art then they have not been paying attention to MMA in the past 5 years.

I personally wanted to see Royce Gracie win his fight against. Matt Hughes. However, I think that everyone who has benifited from Gracie Jiu-Jitsu should admit to that. American's sometimes have a problem remembering where they come from , it's as if they can learn from anyone, any clan, any art & then they "make it their own" and forget where their fighting skills have come from. MMA we all know is an amalgam of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Thai Kickboxing, Western Boxing, and Greco Roman/American Wrestling, etc.

Matt Hughes is a great fighter, no one can take that from him,and no one can take away the fact that Royce Gracie is a great fighter as well; no matter who won this fight..... but I feel that all Americans, and MMA practitioners should remember and honor where they come from, and that means respecting the history of Jiu-Jitsu as it came from Japan's Maeda( "Count Koma"), as well as all the contributions that the Gracie family have added to this wonderful submission based grappling art called Ju-Jitsu of which each and every MMA practitioner has greatly benefited from. Does a man forget his mother and father, once he succeeds in life? Of course not, and a man should not forget from whence his martial arts skills come, mixed martial arts practitioner or not. At the end of the day, it is not just about winning and losing or who beat who's head in. It is about respect, and honor. For if we lose this, then what is our new MMA art worth? Nothing.

it is a shame that the UFC has become the PFC pussyFC taking all the real combat out making it illeagle wtf. I saw gracie get bull dogeed by matt sat night but it disgusted me. Its not what the ufc should have been but what the ufc used to be and now will never be. So I am training now and with much agression will avenge a fighter dishonored by greed.

hello guys,
i would like to start by saying royce is a great fighter. People think that being super strong with 50 suplement vitemins means evolved in MMA.
it is not the case, let take the weight limit out, lets take the rounds out, lets take the rules that you cant stay in the ground out, lets allow them do strikes in key points (it is not allowed in UFC) lets take the time limit out than lets talk about great fighter.

but with all this rules and regilations it is all about who is stronger. not a better fighter.

matt might have advantage over royce for these reasons but there is no way he is a better fighter.
cheers
