The shitty thing about paying two bills for nosebleeds at UFC is that you have to sit near guys like this. The guy went on and on in this manner for the duration of the evening screaming very explicit instructions to the fighters. Remember, we’re sitting in the freakin nosebleeds.

Tonight, Matt Hughes demonstrated a complete and utter domination over Royce Gracie. First round, decisive victory. Royce had absolutely no answer to anything Hughes dished out. As I had predicted, the standup was pretty much crap from both fighters, but they did stay on their feet longer than I expected. The most impressive thing to me about this fight was that Hughes dominated Royce on the ground. Royce never at any point achieved a full guard around Hughes. And Hughes got the kimura on Royce too! Them’s some cojones right there… try and submit the person who single-handedly taught the world submissions.
The winning moment had Matt Hughes on Royce’s back, hooks in. Then Hughes delivered about 8 punches to the back and sides of Royce’s head. Royce made no attempts to protect himself, and Big John McCarthy was forced to stopped the fight, awarding the victory to the champ, Matt Hughes.
In the post-fight interview, Royce said he has a couple of fights left in him… and to this I have to say: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??! JUST STOP ALREADY!!!! You’re pushing 40! Just… know when to say when you fucktard. Maybe he’ll watch the fight tape and realize just how pwned he got and just leave it alone.
And Matt, congratulations on the win, but you’re still a redneck asshole.
I haven’t watched K-1 in a while, but apparently this Thai kid is tearing it up. His hands aren’t that heavy, which is understandable for his size, but his kicks and knees are just phenomenal. They’re like machine guns! I’ll have to do more research on this guy.

So apparently he’s been around since ’04, and lost only twice by decision.
So this Japanese Brazilian guy comes into our gym last night to train. Our instructor introduces him to the class as Lyoto Machida. Says he does MMA, and he’s an up-and-coming fighter. He’s a big dude.. 210lbs, 6’0″ maybe, very technical despite his size. We do drills with him all night to work his grappling because he’s fighting in LA Sub X on Friday. He’s a quiet guy, really nice and respectful of everyone.
Then this morning I google him. First page of the results contains videos of his fights with Stephan Bonnar and Rich Franklin. Holy shit!!! Then I check Sherdog and find out he’s beaten BJ Penn too.
Watching his videos and having met him in person, I have to say the guy’s a class act and has a huge potential in MMA. Needless to say, I’ll be following this guy’s career and I wish him the best.
His sprawling looks pretty good, but his hands might as well be strands of cooked spaghetti. The incessant whimpering noise doesn’t sound very intimidating. I’m guessing it’s some sort of Brazilian breathing technique.
Here’s an interview with Royce up at Fairtex. He alludes to a stand-up strategy, but this could possibly be a red herring for the Hughes camp intel. Royce isn’t dumb enough to think that he could knock anyone out.
