Bushido 10 - A Running Diary

Since Pride Bushido 10 doesn’t air on DishNetwork until Wednesday April 5th, for the 2 days I’ve been avoiding all MMA related websites. I hate, hate, HATE it when I have to wait for a PPV airing, but accidentally click on sherdog or mmaweekly and see a nice picture of Chuck Liddell with his arms raised. Despise that. It actually makes me angry while watching the PPV cuz i paid for it and was stupid enough to spill the beans. To myself.

In any case, having been successful in my self-control exercise, the following is my running diary of Pride - Bushido 10: When Little Guys ATTACK!!!

Introductions

One of the biggest signs of the differences in Pride and UFC’s budget is during the introductions. You got crazy fireworks. Crazy props. Crazy little Japanese guys with crazy cornows. No one wearing shorts/tshirts with 86 sponsor stickers on them. On a side not, Gomi still looks like a little kid to me. A lethal kid.

Ishida vs Rodriguez

Ishida looks even more like a little kid but does exhibit some nice groudwork. Wow, complete domination…then a standing guillotine

I have no idea who any of these 2 guys are. Now Ishida is talking..I have no idea what he’s saying.

We also see the first of 563 ads i’m sure we’ll see tonight for the open weight GP.

Pulver vs Arai

Whoa, Jens’ eye looks FUCKED from the Gomi fight. I read somewhere he was almost blinded in that fight. I can also see that no one has explained how ridiculous that red mohawk haircut is. I have no idea who Arai is but just when I thought Jens looked ludicrous, Arai comes out with cornrows - I immediately want him to lose. I predict Jens in 1st round with complete domination.

First thing I’m thinking is “Arai is trading with Jens?!?! WTF?!? How is he standing after getting clobbered in the head like this??” After a couple minutes..riiiight..he isn’t standing anymore….kick to the face. yup. out. i’m 1-0 so far tonight.

Side Note: Mauro utters the first of 9999 times that he will say “thats why mma is the fastest growng sport in the world!!!!”

Azeredo vs Hansen

I probably am looking forward to this fight the most. I think Azaredo is better than his Pride showings since his 2 losses are to some guy named Gomi. But Hansen has that type of head shape where you think he’ll never get knocked out. My prediction - Hansen by knees near the end of Rd.1.

At one point, Hansen is just letting Azaredo punch him in the face from the ground!! This is what makes “mma the fastest growing sport inthe world!!”

Great fight with great technique so far - elevator sweep to armbar to escape?!? WOW…now double stomp the the head??! This fight is unbelievable… there’s even some illegal grabbing of the ropes by Azeredo! (you know he learned that in chute box)

Hansen by knee in Rd.1 Am I good or am i good? 2 for 2 tonight baby.

Ninja vs Filho

Oh boy, oh boy. Our first grudge match. BTT vs Chute Box. Been witing to see how Ninja looks at 185 since he was always a bit pudgy at 220 or whatever and i cant believe how RIPPED he seems. How is he NOT fightin 185 all the time?? Prediciton…Ninja via punches tko in rd 1.

Filho starts doing the ol’ patented “take the guy down as much as you can. Then when he gets up, take him down again.” ooh boy, this could end up real boring. I’m glad Ninja is trying to make this interesting by getting up.

Can’t get over how Ninja looks ripped. It is also very apparent Filho’s got his gameplan from his buddy Arona. I think they also shop from the same “vitamin” store. This guy is just an animal on the ground…side control, mount, and takedowns like there’s no tomorrow…he’s not really even trying to finish but Ninja has mounted basically 0 offense at all.

Filho wins by unaminous decision. Damn, 2 outta 3 for me now. However, even though he dominated, it would of been nice for him to attempt SOME sort of finish. Ninja’s now lost 3 out his last 4 and 5 out of his last 8. Not looking good for ol’ Ninja. He needs to go back to his roots and use throwing stars and maybe use smoke bombs to confuse his opponents.

Gono vs Kim

Always good to see a Korean in Pride. Not only do they have naturally larger heads but their internal rage makes them great fighters. But then again, Gono-rrhrea is pretty powerful stuff - I predict Gono by decision.

After lying in the corner eating punches….Gono finally wakes up and remembers how easily his country ran through Korea during WW2. Gono pounds on Kim then armbars him - I’m 3 for 4 now (yes I know I said decision but I’m doing the scores so I say its ok). I also believe Gono was thinking that if he was the first Japanese to lose to a Korean - he would have been shot by Yakuza the next day for dishonouring his country.

‘Giant’ Silva vs Minowa

Does anyone else feel sorry for Silva? Basically his fights are like a human version of a bull fight. This guy is a MONSTER - 7 feet 5, 400 lbs, but has no speed. no real skills, no real chance of winning. At least he’s getting paid.. Prection: Minowa. Yes, I know theres probably a 200 lbs weight difference but I just can’t see Silva winning. Ever.

The prefight staredown might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Minowa is eye level with Silvas nipples.

Minowa is dominating on the ground. this is the most ridiculous sight I’ve ever seen. It looks like a child playing with his father. Silva taps after a knee strike (singular) on the ground. What a surprise. 4 for 5 now.

Henderson vs Misaki

Its Dan. Dan will win.

Misaki comes out punching and kicking from 10 feet away and surprising does well. He even eats a patented Hendersen right hand but somehow is able to put Dan on his back. Could we see an upset in the making???

Um no. Dan clobbers the guy for 2 rounds and wins by decision. One thing that pissed me off is how Misaki refused to touch gloves with Dan. Ever. Quite dick-like. These are the kinds of things that prevents “mma from becoming the fastest growing sport in the world!!!”

Gomi vs Aurelio

Heeere we go, Mr. Man. Mr. Bushido. Mr. Little Asian Bad Dude. Gomi. How can anyone think he will lose? He’s another one of those guys with such a large head, you think he’ll never get KO’d. I’m hoping for some patented Gomi-knocks-the-other-guy-senseless action. What’s amazing about Gomi’s run is that I don’t think he’s even been even CLOSE to losing before. Actually looking at the staredown, Aurelio is actually pretty big for a lightweight, just like Gomi.

Whoa…NICE takedown by Aurelio. Don’t think I’ve seen Gomi on his back in awhile…this could get interesting. Holy shit, did he almost just choke out Gomi??

Holy shit!!! He did just choke him out! OM Freaking God! I’m jumping all over my room right now. Who? How? WTF?!?! Who the hell saw this coming?!?! Ok, I can’t take this anymore…

Summary

One of the best Bushido shows I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe Gomi got choked out. The End.
